Most of the greatest losses and defeats against the Muslims didn’t come from outsiders, but rather from collaborators from within. Behind their plans were always the disbelieving colonial nations. From T.E. Lawrence and the Arab Revolt against the Uthmani Khilafah in 1916, to the puppet rulers that govern the Muslim lands, to scholars that justified all of the above - the history of the Ummah over the past 150 years decisively proves this point. Recently, the Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates stated that Islam never defined a specific ruling system beyond open-ended notions of justice, consultation, and appointing a ruler. To make such ambiguous claims undermines the numerous evidences from the Quran and Sunnah that necessitate the obligation of ruling by Islam and that define the Prophet’s (saw) actions regarding ruling as being legislative.

(وَأَنِ احْكُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ بِمَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ وَلا تَتَّبِعْ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ وَاحْذَرْهُمْ أَنْ يَفْتِنُوكَ عَنْ بَعْضِ مَا أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكَ)

“And judge, [O Muhammad], between them by what Allah has revealed and do not follow their inclinations and beware of them, lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has revealed to you.” [Al-Maida: 49]

(فَلَا وَرَبِّكَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىٰ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَجِدُوا فِي أَنفُسِهِمْ حَرَجًا مِّمَّا قَضَيْتَ وَيُسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا)

But no, by your Lord, they will not believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge over which they dispute and then find within themselves no discomfort from what you have judged and submit in full submission. [Surah An Nisa:65]

And they did not hear the saying of the Prophet

«كَانَتْ بَنُو إسْرَائِيلَ تَسُوسُهُمُ الأنْبِيَاءُ، كُلَّما هَلَكَ نَبِيٌّ خَلَفَهُ نَبِيٌّ، وإنَّه لا نَبِيَّ بَعْدِي، وَسَتَكُونُ خُلَفَاءُ فَتَكْثُرُ»، قالوا: فَما تَأْمُرُنَا؟ قالَ: «فُوا ببَيْعَةِ الأوَّلِ، فَالأوَّلِ، وَأَعْطُوهُمْ حَقَّهُمْ، فإنَّ اللَّهَ سَائِلُهُمْ عَمَّا اسْتَرْعَاهُمْ»

“Bani Israel were ruled by their Prophets. When one died, there would follow another. There will be no Prophet after me, only Khulafaa’.’ They asked Rasulallah, ‘What should we do?’ He said ‘Give them bay’ah, one after the other, and give them their rights, because Allah will ask them about responsibility.”

In other words, Allah commanded the Muslims to rule by Islam, therefore any ruling actions performed by the Prophet (s) are incumbent for us as Muslims to follow. Attempts to confuse and obfuscate the reality of the Islamic system of governance are not harmless nor benign. They are the product of hundreds of years of colonial schemes to divert the Ummah from the ideology of Islam - viewing it as a set of moral practices and spiritual rituals absent of its social, economic, and political rulings. Even to this day, Western governments and think tanks concoct plans to quote-unquote reform Islam, just like Judaism and Christianity were reformed to conform with the modern world. Just as they did 100 years ago, they employ scholars, institutions, and governments to accomplish this goal. So blatant are their plans, it can be said that the wolf no longer relies on the sheep’s clothing, it openly presents itself as a wolf. This of course is the natural consequence of not having an Islamic system to identify, expose, and stamp out these foreign-born plots to modify Islam.

It’s up to us as an Ummah to see the game being played to contort and distort our deen and challenge the entities that willingly or unwillingly allow it to occur.
