News Right Now: Erdogan a Model Secularist

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Welcome to News Right Now - Erdogan a Model Secularist

Time and time again, when given the opportunity, the Ummah has continuously and consistently shown its love for Islam and the return of Islam in the political, economic, and social spheres of life.

The so-called Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, the victory of the Islamic Salvation Front in Algeria in 1991, the victory of Hamas in Gaza in 2006, the victory of the Nahda party in Tunisia, and the election of Muhammad Morsi in Egypt, all prove that Ummah yearns for even a semblance of the return of Islam - and the recent victory of Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Turkey is no different.

The regimes across the Muslim world are acutely aware of this and conveniently don an Islamic garb to appease the public.

Despite that, when so-called Islamist parties win elections, as they have multiple times, they are forced to compromise and commit themselves to the haram secular, nationalistic, and Capitalistic ideals that these countries are based upon.

Knowingly or unknowingly, they are put in positions where they have to compromise their Islamic ideals in support of the secular state - a disappointing proposition that once again erodes the Ummah’s trust in political parties - even the Islamic ones.

Regarding Erdogan, despite Erdogan’s cult-like popularity among some circles in the Muslim world as a reviver and reformer, he is just as committed to the secular Turkish state as any of his secularist predecessors - a fact that makes him even more dubious that openly secular politicians.

Speaking about the secular Turkish state, which was built on the ruins of the Uthmani Khilafah, Erdogan said:

“We will cherish our republic that was established in 1923, till eternity...”

While he lauds Islam, the reality of his actions tell a different story.

Under Erdogan, Turkey has made alliances with Iran, Russia, and the United States; shaking the blood-soaked hands of these tyrant regimes.

Under Erdogan, Turkey has allowed military access to its airspace to kill innocent Muslims in Syria.

During the entire Syrian revolution, Turkey gave the impression that it supports some of the opposition forces. While it provided financial and logistic support to some of the factions, it did so with the sole purpose to control the opposition in accordance with US desires and plans.

While he shed tears at the plight of the Syrian Muslims, he failed to move his army against Bashar’s criminal regime.

Most revealing is Erdogan’s sustained relationship with the illegal Zionist entity and refusal to use his military, economic, political, and diplomatic power to end the occupation of Palestine.

The Ummah’s support for Islamic political parties and personalities that claim to represent Islam is encouraging, and a sign of the Ummah’s awakening.

But the next stage in the Ummah’s revival is political awareness and a deep understanding of Islam’s unique political, economic, and social systems so they can separate those who claim to support Islam from those who actually do.

We, as an Ummah must be able to differentiate between a leader that claims to love Islam and the Quran, from one who shows it by implementing Islam and its systems.
We, as Muslims must be clear in demanding the full and complete application of Islam, in all of its facets, and in every aspect of our lives and we can not be deceived by partial, incomplete, and inconsistent application of Islam - lest we find ourselves deceived and pandered to.

Much like the famous statement to Abu Bakr when he became Khalifah, the Ummah should not be afraid to hold its leaders to account and call them to task for their misapplication and neglect of the Islamic rulings.

Despite his popularity as a so-called Islamist, Erdogan and his regime have clearly chosen to uphold the secular state in Turkey - a matter which is in clear contradiction to the Islamic aqeedah.

Rather than being an Islamic savior, Erdogan is proving to be a model secularist.

Jazakum Allahu khairan for joining us and do join us next time. Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu.
