 Nafsiya Reflections: This Ramadan

Welcome another episode of Nafsiyah Reflections - This Ramadan

This Ramadan is different. You do not need anyone to tell you that. This Ramadan we are not going to gather freely as before. We are not going to the mosques to pray Taraweeh salah, standing shoulder to shoulder, unified in our prayer to Allah.[Pray in your homes] We are not going to hear “Ameen” echoing through the Masajid. [Sound of “Ameen” during Salah in Makkah].The kaabah standing in the middle of an empty space. The Aqsa, almost completely empty. [Duaa made in Aqsa Leilat Al Qadr] This Ramadan, we won’t be walking under the Ramadan lights after prayer, and watching all the kids running around in their salah clothes together excited to buy candy, waiting for the store to open, or playing with their old friends after iftar. Or enjoying coffee and desserts in the company of one another after Taraweeh Salah.

A big part of the Ibada has been robbed from us. A part of our Sunnah has been taken!

This Ramadan is different.

As painful, and as heartbreaking this is, we do not know where the khair is, where the good is. We do not know what Allah has planned. What we do know, Allah is the best of planners. What we do know is we still have the blessing of time. See there is a reason behind everything we are facing. What we are facing as an Ummah. Facing in Syria, Myanmar, Yemen, China, Palestine...etc.! What we are and have faced under these secular, capitalist systems, and now this... a pandemic that has caused even the “superpowers” to fall to their knees. This is not a normal state. This is a rare state, given by Allah. We do not know why. Why... is irrelevant. Why does it not matter. For we live and do what Allah, orders us to do. We strive to change this state we are in, to help our brothers and sisters, and the world from murder, torture and starvation by obeying Allah (swt) laws.

What we do know, is this time we are given, is for a reason. This time is a blessing. For this is something we need to look at with a different perspective. We must take advantage of the free time Allah has given us, this time... that only HE SWT knows the reason behind. So what do you think he wants us to do? Sit on our phones watching t.v. shows, playing video games, going through social media the entire time? The Prophet (ﷺ) said,

"‏ نِعْمَتَانِ مَغْبُونٌ فِيهِمَا كَثِيرٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ، الصِّحَّةُ وَالْفَرَاغُ ‏‏"

"There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good."

We have health and time right now, for now!

The true question is what do we believe Allah expects from us?

Allah said,

( وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ الۡجِنَّ وَالۡاِنۡسَ اِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُوۡنِ‏)

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (Surah Adh-Dhariyat: 56)

The true question is what do we believe Allah expects from us?

But to raise brilliant generations, who truly know and live by Islam as it was brought down through the angel Jibreel to our beloved prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, it isn’t the lack of time during Ramadan that builds these generations, but the removal of the system that corrupts them. Generations built mostly on partying, “havin’ fun” and taking selfies. Instead of raised into being valued, strong willed, God fearing, people who know right from wrong, and will defend the right no matter what; who live to please Allah and protect human kind.

So to take advantage of This Ramadan we can show our children or family members what it means to worship in Ramadan, without the distraction of dinners, and gatherings. Even though those dinners have great Ajir in them. Rather we can take time to teach them all about Ramadan and how the prophet peace be upon him lived through this blessed month. Teaching them the Seerah, teaching them who the Sahabah were (RA), teaching them who The Khulafa Ar-rashideen were, how they lead our Ummah with the sharia of Allah. And not to mention learning ourselves! How this month was the month of victories! From battle of Badr to Fatih Makkah and the Andalus!

For in this Ramadan we can truly purify our souls, for Allah grants strength to those with pure hearts!
This Ramadan is different... but maybe, just maybe, it could be the month of change.

Jazakom Allahu Khayran for joining us!
