 Nafsiya Reflections: Ramadan is Here

Welcome to another episode of Nafsiyah Reflections - Ramadan is Here!

Ramadan is right around the corner. A sense of excitement, a sense of hope, and comfort; comfort in knowing the blessed month is finally here, no Shayateen (devils), the doors of Jannah open wide open and the gates of hell sealed closed. Comfort in an old feeling, in an old memory, especially in this abnormal time, this pandemic, where the governments shut down mosques, forbid the Jumaa prayer, family Iftar gatherings not allowed, etc. The excitement in the celebration of Ramadan; Futoor after a long day of fasting. The sense like we are pleasing Allah swt. There is nothing on earth that can make us feel as good as gaining His swt’s pleasure. A sense of security, knowing Allah swt tied up all the shayteen in that we may exceed and do our very best.

Hopefully this Ramadan we will be a united Ummah all fasting the same day rather than having moon wars. Ramadan is about uniting the Ummah not breaking it. It is a time of devotion, celebration, sitting at a table together, breaking our fasts. The messenger, peace and blessings be upon him said,

Fast upon its (the crescent moon) sighting and break the fast upon its sighting” (an-Nisa’i).

And let’s hope it’s not cloudy,

“The crescent of Shawwal was hidden from us (by clouds) so we arose the next morning fasting. Then a caravan from outside Madinah arrived towards the end of the day and the people in it witnessed to the Prophet (saw) that they had seen the crescent yesterday, so he (saw) commanded us to break our fast and to gather for Eid the following morning.” (Ahmad)

A few days are left, and it’s a good time to prepare ourselves mentally and physically, if we haven’t already. We need to place our intentions to read the whole Quran, even if we don’t read Arabic, to maybe listen and repeat.

‘Ā’isha reported God’s messenger as saying, “One who is skilled in the Qur’ān is associated with the noble, upright recording angels; and he who falters when reciting the Qur’ān and finds it difficult for him will have a double reward.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

Examples of some good deeds to gain is opening doors for people, to smile, to help others, to be silent when angry. Also preparing our bodies physically, by cutting back on that coffee a bit, maybe temporarily switch to decaf, so we don’t get those headaches. This is the perfect time to start breaking bad habits and forming good ones. This is the perfect time to give ourselves a push; to work harder. See, with the intention to do the best we can this Ramadan. We must not forget one very, very important thing, the whole purpose of the Ajir and all the good deeds, all the fasting, praying Taraweeh, or I’tikaf is to gain not only the pleasure of Allah swt, but the closeness to Him, which in turn we gain Rida, the pleasure, of Allah. Bizhinullah!

The more deeds we take on, the more we feel that sense of accomplishment, sometimes forgetting that the reason for all those deeds is not the deed or physical movement in and of itself, rather it is being consciously aware of the closeness we feel to Allah when we do those deeds in that we gain strength.

‘A’isha reported God’s Messenger as saying, “The acts most pleasing to God are those which are done most continuously, even if they amount to little.” (Bukhari and Muslim.) So let’s make this Ramadan better than the last. Let’s compete within ourselves in finding ways to bring ourselves nearer to Allah swt.

Ya Allah, help us change our bad habits, to that of which you love.

Ya Allah, bring us closer to You than ever before. Let us leave this Ramadan stronger than before.

Ya Allah, take away the darkness of our hearts, replacing it with the light of your deen, the light of the Quran, with Your light, ya Allah.

Ya Allah, guide us to Your straight path. Guide us to As-sirat al mustaqeem.

Ya Allah, have mercy on us in this dunya and the akhirah.

Ya Allah, help this Ummah!

Ya Allah, help this Ummah!

Ya Allah, help this Ummah! Help us establish your deen in the earth, as Muhammad pbuh established it. Taking his footsteps to establishing the second righteous Khilafah, on the prophetic method.

Ya Allah, only with Your permission can it be! Ya Allah, let it be!

Ya Allah, help us, ya Allah help us, ya Allah help us, in establishing Your Deen!

Ya Allah, place Barakah this Ramadan, may it be the last Ramadan without our Khilafah, without our Shield.

Oh Allah, grant us the ability to reach Ramadan, with Your Rid’a, Your pleasure upon us. Ya Rab!
