Pearls of Wisdom by Ibn Taymiyyah: “Don’t depend too much on anyone...”

IBN T A Y M I Y Y A H, May Allah have mercy upon him, was born in Harran, an old city within the Arabian Peninsula between Syria and Iraq, on the tenth or the twelfth of the month Rabi al-Awwal the year 661H. He and his family were later forced to flee to Damascus due to the occupation by the Tartars. He came from a family of scholars. At an early age he amazed his teachers at the strength of his memory, keen intelligence and depth of understanding. Ibn Taymiyyah was one of the greatest scholars in which his knowledge still lives on till this day. The Ummah Voice Podcast presents our audience a segment of his quotes during the holy month of Ramadan.

One famous quote of Ibn Taymiyyah is: “Don’t depend too much on anyone in this world because even your own shadow leaves you when you are in darkness.”

This powerful quote teaches one that true reliance should be with the All-Mighty. Allah (swt) never leaves and HE alone stays with you during your dark moments never to expose you. People can turn their backs on you or expose your darkest moments. How many times have we felt betrayed by people who we thought were our friends or family. This strong quote emphasizes that even your own shadow leaves you in the moment of darkness. One should always turn to the All-Mighty for guidance, complain to, ask for help. HE (swt) feels your pain, sees your tears, hears you. HE (swt) knows your suffering and only HE (swt) knows your true reality. Do not give up on Allah (swt) because he is closer to you than you can imagine. HE (swt) is not your shadow who will leave you during your dark moments.
