News Right Now: Essential Elements

The Taliban have been successful in booting out the US in their humiliating defeat after almost 20 long years of failed occupation. On August 15th they entered in to Kabul gaining entry to the presidential Palace and sealed their position to rule over the people of Afghanistan.

The task ahead now will not be an easy one for them. As it wouldn’t be for anyone wanting a radical regime change. There is so much to deal with and so much to fix – 20 years of serious damage to undo. It must be understood by the Muslim Ummah everywhere that only through the implementation of Islam comprehensively is this possible. Any compromise in implementing Islam will result in the Taliban losing their legitimacy and credibility among the people, and without the support of the Muslims no Islamic movement can and will survive.

Allah SWT tell us

[ٱلْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِى وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ ٱلْإِسْلَـٰمَ دِينًا ۚ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ فِى مَخْمَصَةٍ غَيْرَ مُتَجَانِفٍ لِّإِثْمٍ ۙ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ]

“Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My blessing upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” [Surah Al-Maa’idah, 5:3]

This perfect religion caters to all of human affairs and has solved every problem that could possibly exist. Such is the perfection of Allah SWT and his systems. We saw in our glorious history that when the Islamic Khilafah system was implemented, the society flourished and lived in harmony, justice and peace. .There was no borders, no nationalism, patriotism, racism etc. It was One State, One Ummah! This is the same Khilafah ruling system that the Khulafa Rashideen implemented and the same one which existed during the Golden age of Islam, right up until 3rd March 1924 – the fall of the Ottoman Empire.

It was during this time we saw Islam was the source of all legislation and all enjoyed their rights. Muslim or non-Muslim, along with hundreds of historians, describe periods of Islamic rule as the Golden Era or the Golden Age. From issues relating to ruling, security, unity, foreign policy and independence – all this was referred to by the Shara of Allah SWT hence we witnessed flourishment and amity.

In addition to this, it must be understood that the establishment of the Khilafah is a duty upon the Ummah, we are responsible to work for this goal and to bring this shield that we lost very long time back.

Allah SWT makes clear the importance of his rule when he says in Surah al-Mai’dah, verse 44

[وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ]

“And whosoever does not judge by all that Allah has revealed, such are the disbelievers.”

We also see the warning from the words of our Beloved SAW

«أَلَا إِنَّ الْكِتَابَ وَالسُّلْطَانَ سَيَفْتَرِقَانِ فَلَا تُفَارِقُوا الْكِتَابَ... مَوْتٌ فِي طَاعَةِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ حَيَاةٍ فِي مَعْصِيَةِ اللهِ»

“Behold, the day will come when the book (Quran) and the sultan state/rulers will be separated from each other. And know that to die in obedience to Allah is better than a life of disobedience to Allah.” (Taberani, es-Sagir, 2/42)

There are many statements of scholars too regarding the assumption of the Caliphate. Imam Ibn Taymiyyah “it is Wajib to know that the authority of the Caliphate, which rules over the people, is one of the greatest obligations of religion. In fact, there is no religious establishment without it. This view at the same time; is the view of the Salaf such as Ibn Iyad, Ahmad bin Hanbel and others.”

So today when we see the Taliban call themselves the Islamic Emirate, we need to remind them that this concept actually goes against and works as an obstacle to a single Islamic Khilafah for the whole of mankind. There should be no borders to restrain the laws of Allah SWT, it’s to be spread across the globe. Insha-Allah Afghanistan will be the starting point for this honourable return.

Allah (swt) describes the Ummah as the best and most unique community ever created. Islam has the solutions to all human problems. But although the Islamic Ummah has the solutions to each of these problems, it is evident that without a state that implements these solutions and that conveys these solutions to all of humanity, it has no real impact on the lives of Muslims or the others. Therefore it is upon us to work earnestly for its return. We must really provide the true image of what the state would look like and eradicate all the lies and misconceptions that have been attached to the Khilafah. We need to show that the world will be how it was in the past when Islam existed and the Muslims as well as non-Muslims rushed to live under the state as it guaranteed protection.

We end with the beautiful words of Allah on the honour of working for the return of Islam:

[مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ رِجَالٌ صَدَقُوا۟ مَا عَـٰهَدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيْهِ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّن قَضَىٰ نَحْبَهُۥ وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَنتَظِرُ ۖ وَمَا بَدَّلُوا۟ تَبْدِيلًا]

“Among the believers are men who have been true to their covenant with Allah. of them some have fulfilled their obligations (i.e. have been martyred), and some of them are still waiting yielding to no change.” Surah Al-Ahzab, 33: 23
