 Nafsiya Reflections: Be Smart

Welcome to a new episode of Nafsiya Reflections: Be Smart!

Who am I? We are either constantly asking ourselves or we hear others asking themselves around us. Constantly searching... “who am I”? “What is meant for my life?” “There has to be more than this...” Living day by day, same routine, same old, same old. A constant feeling of,

“There is something missing in my life”.

“I know I haven’t reached my full potential”.

“I have so much more to give”.

At the end, we get out of our beds, brush those feelings off, for they are imperceptible feelings we can’t touch. We then jump into our routines for comfort, take a shower, check our phones, drink our coffee and get the day going. A new day, but the same cycle. Day after day.

See, these thoughts provoke feelings, challenges within us. Challenges we can’t seem to find the answers to. And as we go through the day, we continue to brush them off and keep doing what we do. We go to school, college, work, or start our day at home. And in denying that probing feeling within us, that hollow void, we work harder and harder, but then are surprised by the disappointment of dissatisfaction after reaching those goals.

We then look into the world of frivolous distractions. Looking for “fun”, to compensate for that hole within us. We turn on the TV, watch our favorite channels on YouTube, mindlessly go through social media, hit the gym, go out, hang out with friends or take a walk outside. We go back to bed, only to start all over again the next day. All the while, pushing that feeling lower and lower, deeper and deeper down.

See, how we think and feel creates our state of being. In a world full of frivolous distractions, we find our solace in habitual activities, routines, and that becomes our program. It becomes our belief, our perception, the lens in which we see our day, our life, our world. And in that, we lose our free-will in programming ourselves. How so you may ask?

We live in a society that is shaping us. Molding our minds, shaping our beliefs, altering the way we feel about the world around us, and in thus, our reaction to it. And in reacting, we take action, or inaction. Thus, changing the direction of our lives, our destination. If we do not program ourselves, something else will.

These systems we live under don’t want us to strive for true greatness. They have been placed to control us, to manipulate us. In throwing “reality” shows, singing competitions, movies at us. Again, altering the way we see the world. Or in manipulating our education, hiding history, hiding who we are as an Ummah. To raise generations into unconsciousness. For why wouldn’t they? We were and still are the greatest Ummah on earth.

Allah (swt) says,

You are the best nation produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah. [Aal-Imran: 110]

See, we are the example for mankind. Allah said in Surah Ad-Dhuha, Ayah seven:

(وَوَجَدَكَ ضَالًّا فَهَدَىٰ )

And He found you lost and guided [you].

The world is lost in self-discovery. Till the day they die, they will continue to constantly look for answers. And this is what they want for us. To be lost in our ways, in our rituals, in our day to day, to busy ourselves, with just getting by. To distract us with making money to live, making life harder and harder or easier and easier, with distractions, so as not to wake up. To lose ourselves in the experiences of worldly life, dunya. Losing ourselves in nothing while all the while looking for something. To forget who we are, and go in circles as they do. To not carry the light of Islam into the darkness of their distortion. To not rise again.

And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless. [Al-A’raf: 179]

The Prophet (saw) said,

" إِنَّكُمْ تُتِمُّونَ سَبْعِينَ أُمَّةً أَنْتُمْ خَيْرُهَا وَأَكْرَمُهَا عَلَى اللَّهِ "

“You are the completion of seventy nations, you are the best of them, and the most honorable of them to Allah.”

This is who we are. We know who we are. We are the followers of the greatest Human beings that ever walked the face of this earth. We are the believers of Allah. We know our purpose. And we definitely don’t need these secular, capitalist, democratic systems teaching us or throwing us into mazes to figure out the core sense of ourselves. We are the Ummah of Muhammad SAW. We are the soldiers of Allah. We were created to worship Allah, the Ibadah of Allah, in which we gain all our strength, our confidence. And in finding the meaning of our lives, something they will never take away from us.

So... be smart!

Jazakom Allahu Khairun for joining us,

May Allah bring back the state, on the prophetic method, that gave true meaning to our lives in this Dunya.
