Recently World Bank classified Tanzania as among seven countries that moved to the status of lower middle-income category, while three others went down in their economic status for 2019.

In its inaugural index on women empowerment, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) compares single women, those in monogamous and polygamous marriages and widows.  The rate of empowerment is highest among unmarried women (37 per cent), but drops to 27 per cent when they tie the knot or begin cohabiting with a man. KNBS described empowerment largely as the ability to make choices (The Star, 12/08/2020).

On the 27th of July Russian FSB announced the elimination of the so-called "terrorist" in the city of Khimki near Moscow. According to the Special Services, 19-year-old Tajik Odil Kayumov allegedly planned to stage a terrorist attack in crowded places.
