The meaning of the word 'election' is to outweigh, it is permissible in Islam if it is not related to something forbidden. In the era of the Righteous Khaleefs, the Khaleefs took their post as leaders of the believers by election. Although the reality of election is permissible, but not all elections are permissible.
The blessed month of Ramadan is linked with the great conquests and victories and this linkage began in the very first Ramadan that the Muslims fasted in the second year of Hijrah. This is when Allah honoured and blessed them with the powerful victory in the great Battle of Badr which broke the strength of the polytheists of Makkah.
