Idlib remains the last territory in the seven-year battle for Syria outside regime control. After Russia was gearing up for a final assault on the northern province, Erdogan and Putin met in Sochi on 16 September 2018 where both leaders agreed to create a demilitarised zone, which really meant Turkey would take the heavy weapons from the groups in Idlib.

On the 15th of October 2018 the BBC reported that Yemen in facing the worst famine the world has ever known in 100 years. As many as 13 million civilians are at risk of dying from the lack of food in the war-torn country in the next three months.
