Milton Friedman, the god father of neoliberalism, wrote in his book on Capitalism in 1981: “Only a crisis – actual or perceived – produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around.” He took full advantage to advocate his liberal free market ideas after the economic problems of the 1970’s, after being on the margins for so long.
