The government has recently announced measures designed to bolster already overreaching anti-terror laws. The appointment of a National Counter Terrorism Coordinator and a ministerial position, targeting of school children and legislation that potentially removes citizenship are some of the introduced and proposed changes.

On Tuesday 12th May, the Malaysian and Indonesian governments announced that they would be refusing entry to boatloads of desperate and hungry Rohingya and Bangladeshi men, women and children fleeing persecution in Myanmar or dire poverty in their lands. On Monday, 18/05/2015 inside the Bermoral City Court of Sverdlovsk County, the verdict was passed in the case of “the call for Muslims not to celebrate non- Islamic holidays”. The court sentenced Elvira Sultana Khamitova to 120 hours of forced labor for spreading a leaflet in social networks regarding the prohibition of Muslims celebrating the traditional Russian festival of the New Year.
