Sharia Is Inseparable from Islam and the Only Hope for a New Way Forward

Muslims who support Islam?! Nothing short of a scandal, according to several Danish media outlets, politicians, and pseudo-experts. Everything from bans to prosecution and surveillance has been proposed to combat this phenomenon.

There has been no shortage of bombastic reactions to the "revelation" of a small segment of an episode of the podcast "The Islamic Perspective" (Det Islamiske Perspektiv). I, along with two other members of Hizb ut Tahrir, participated in this episode, which was published publicly on YouTube and social media under the title "Do You Support Sharia?"

The uproar—exactly as predicted in the podcast—is due to the fact that certain Islam-hating forces in society insist on reducing the concept of Sharia in public debate to corporal punishment, while attempting to pressure Muslims into distancing themselves from it.

Sharia is the term for the collection of Islamic rules and laws for life. It is a complete system of life that encompasses everything from individual matters to social relations, societal structure, politics, economics, and yes—criminal law. In other words, Sharia is an inseparable part of Islam, which Muslims, of course, have always fully and entirely supported.

But Sharia is even more than that. At a time when the Western world order is crumbling before our eyes, both in terms of values and politics; where genocide and ethnic cleansing committed by a military occupation are sponsored and armed as "democratic self-defense"; where pretended loyalty and cohesion vanish like dew before the sun, and allies turn on each other in endless lust for power and raw capitalist interests; where the top of the Western political, cultural, and economic elite is—unsurprisingly—unraveled as a vast, perverse network of systemic immorality and evil. In this time, Sharia—Islam’s system of life—is the only real alternative.

Hizb ut Tahrir works to re-establish this system in the Muslim world, in accordance with the people’s Islamic conviction, and to bring new, just leadership to the world, so that its populations may once again experience the mercy of Sharia and be liberated from Western capitalist colonialism and arrogant cultural imperialism.

No campaign from genocide-supporting tabloid media, nor threats from desperate politicians with no real values to offer the population, will deter us from this work or from spreading knowledge of Islam’s merciful outlook on life and its systems to all who seek a way out of these dark times of crisis.
