Nafsiya Reflections: Penetrating our Minds
Welcome to Nafsiya Reflections: Penetrating our Minds
The surge of Turkish soap operas keeps on growing. What is the impact these soap operas have on society, our youth, or families? Do they even have an impact? Turkish culture is found to be appealing in the Middle East, Pakistan, and even in the West?
These dramas are becoming addictive among our new generation. The emergence of Turkish soap operas came to light when the Saudi television company MBC started broadcasting Turkish series. Afterwards, explosions in viewership started to arise. Turkey's soap operas are creating new roles, new heroes and new cultural norms in a rapidly changing region. Turkish actors are becoming our children's role models rather than being Khadija (ra), Sumaya, the first Martyr in Islam, Omar bin Al Khatab (ra) the second Khilafah. The West is working continuously on forgetting our beloved Sahaba and are focusing on implanting this poison into Muslim minds.
Turkish dramas are changing the lifestyles of female youth and are promoting vulgarity. Shows where it glorifies infidelity, abuse, wine, Zina, interpersonal communication, and are becoming a source of information about fashion trends now-a- days. The countless hours that are spent on these dramas have countless effects without the individual even acknowledging that any damage is done on their Islamic values. Many scenes or dialogues from Turkish soap operas were seen as foreign and even angered people in society. However, little by little the poison had started working where seeing these constant fashion trends, scenes of Zina, wine, etc have become almost normal. Sadly, they are slowly introducing Homosexuality into these soap operas where our youth start to see it as a personal choice and the freedom to love who they want.
Turkey is a predominantly Muslim country that has deep roots of being governed by Islam; however, Turkey is heavily victimized by the European culture influencing women of nuclear type of families to be treated like the ones of European culture. An example of one Turkish Drama was the Syrian-dubbed Turkish soap opera, Gümüş1 (Noor in Arabic) where the finale had a total of 85 million Arab viewers. The Noor series fits the model of implanting many corrupt ideas on accepting Haram relations, alcohol, etc.
The show triggered many marital crises, as Arab women made the painful comparison between Muhannad (one of the main Characters) and their husbands, demanding more romance and respect in their relationships. Several divorce cases were filed during this series. Some even complained that this series implemented feminist theories. Alcohol, abortions and premarital sex are all ingredients of Turkish soaps but are also the nightmares of ones wanting to purely implement Islam into our youths’ hearts.
These Turkish dramas are all affecting our Muslim Ummah by scrambling the ideas of what a Muslim woman, man, and children duties are, their responsibilities towards pleasing Allah (swt), the Dawah, the love to implement Islam back into the Muslim lands. People believe that these dramas are our role models for life, family, education, etc. Gender roles in society especially in the workplace and academia are being blurred. In reality, people have lost the real sense that these dramas are put into effect by these puppet regimes all to erase the love of Islam for fear that implementation of Islam will return to Turkey or amongst Muslims.
The West works day and night to keep its corrupt standards as the new measure in Muslim lands. The West is sleepless to implant its hypersexualized youth into our lands in order to destroy our future generation. Turkey must return to its mighty glory. Rather than filling the Muslim minds with decay, they ought to be nurtured with righteous thoughts. Allah (swt) revealed in Surah Al-Nur (24), Ayah 19:
(إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَن تَشِيعَ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ)
"Surely (as for) those who love that scandal should circulate respecting those who believe, they shall have a grievous chastisement in this world and the hereafter; and Allah knows, while you do not know."
